The children walked a mile around the stadium with their patron, BAFTA nominated actress Sue Johnston and Tottenham Hotspur player Sandro.
Patron of Haringey Shed, Sue Johnston said: “It’s been a wonderful afternoon and it’s great to see the children out there raising awareness for such a great cause. I hope that their participation will encourage everyone to go the extra mile for Sport Relief.”
Sandro said, “The children involved had so much energy, they did really well and it was sometimes hard to keep up with them - I only managed three laps because I have to conserve my energy for the weekend’s game! It’s really important for kids to have the chance to come to our stadium and, as players, we know we have an important role to play in helping inspire them to achieve.”
This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their Sport Relief Socks and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile to raise vital funds for vulnerable people across the UK and the world’s poorest countries. The London Mile will be taking place down London’s most famous road, the Mall, and there is still time to enter and bag a space at the start line. Enter right now at www.sportrelief.com.
All the money raised by the public for Sport Relief help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people right here in London, across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries. Enter the Mile now and get sponsored to help raise money and change lives for the better.
“Everyone Gives” promises to be the most extensive and inclusive global giving event ever attempted, benefitting more than 200 non-profits around the globe.
“This is an easy way for our supporters to donate to Haringey Shed and to tell their friends and family about why Haringey Shed is important to them,” says Lynne Hale, Haringey Shed’s Executive Director. Donating is simple and secure, and one hundred percent of all donations made through Everyone Gives go directly to the non-profit selected by the donor.
Participants make a small donation, as little as £5, to Haringey Shed via B My Charity and then tap into their social networks via email, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook to invite friends, co-workers, clients and family to support Haringey Shed.

This year has definitely seen our strongest team of volunteers and JJ is a big part of that. He has also taken on a big role in our promotional work. His twittering always mentions Haringey Shed!”
Haringey Shed would like to send huge congratulations to Ashling McGee, who supports Children’s and Youth Theatre on Mondays, for completing the Berlin Marathon this September. Ashling ran the marathon alongside 40,000 other runners from across the globe. Ashling said “I laughed all the way, and made some German friends. When I finished I ate a massive pretzel straight away.”
This September, Haringey Shed spent an evening at the London Peace Awards, where they were nominated for the Diversity Award and received a certificate recognising Shed’s “valuable contribution to peace and justice in London”. The London Peace Awards celebrate organisations which promote positive, constructive and peaceful activities in the city. The awards were presented by London Mayor Boris Johnson and the Reverend Nims Obunge, who both spoke about the importance of working together as a community to promote peace.

BBC Children in Need exists to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. BBC Children in Need are currently supporting c.2,500 projects that are working with children facing a range of disadvantages for example, poverty and deprivation; disabled young people and children who have been the victims of abuse or neglect. Since our first major Appeal in 1980 BBC Children in Need has raised over £600 million. For every penny that we receive from the public a penny will straight to a project just like Haringey Shed that helps disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Shed will continue to demonstrate that Tottenham is full of many peaceful, creative and productive activities. We will stick together to prove that the majority of Tottenham’s young people have so much to give.

Haringey Shed, the inclusive theatre company for children and young people, is on the move and I would like to ask for your help!
As you will know we have been based at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre for a few years now, but as from 1st February 2011 we are moving to the Irish Centre in Pretoria Road, Tottenham and the Haringey Sixth Form Centre.
This is very exciting for everyone as the Centre will house a larger better equipped office for the staff but more importantly we will have our very own Studio for our music, rehearsals, the band, the choir and many other activities. Our Children’s and Youth Theatre will now take place at the Sixth Form Centre – a lovely modern building which is already used by us during the school holidays. In addition, this move will represent a significant long-term cost saving by a reduction in our rent, and also by having our own studio we are going to be able to generate income by offering external training.
Where we need your help is that the move is going to cost us an additional £10,000 as we have to totally refurbish our rooms to make them accessible, and with decorating, rewiring, carpeting and so on, you will know how quickly these costs build up. So this letter is my personal appeal to everyone to help out in any way they can with donations towards this cost, for however small or large your gift it will be gratefully received.
I know I don’t have to tell you how much I value and support Haringey Shed and its wonderful work with children and I know you do too. So please be as generous as you can - it will mean so much to us all.
Please make your cheques payable to Haringey Shed and send them to Aneita Malcolm, Haringey Shed, Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Tottenham, London N15 4RX or donate online
Many thanks
Sue Johnston OBE

Trevor Nelson met and talked to our Children's and Youth Theatre members and joined in with the workshops. Children in Need are one of our funders and we were lucky enough to be featured on The One Show. Our members loved having the television cameras around and it meant a lot to Haringey Shed for our work to be recognised by Children in Need. The show aired on Wednesday 17th November and we hope to have our film on the website soon.
You can now watch the video clip here!
6 Music came down to Shed Band to interview and listen to the Shed Band members.

Youth Mark is the quality award for organisations that provide services for young people, delivered entirely by young people. Haringey Shed participated in a Youth Mark assessment of its services carried out by four young people from London.
The assessment found that the organisation caters for young people of all abilities and needs and was impressed by Haringey Shed staff and volunteer’s commitment and willingness to allow everyone to play a part. A young member of Haringey Shed said of the organisation:
“The strength of Haringey Shed is inclusion, providing opportunities for young people to take part, supporting those with disabilities and bringing young people of all abilities and needs together.”
Interviews with staff, volunteers and young people revealed they see Haringey Shed as a ‘one big family’ and felt proud to be part of the organisation. This strong sense of family and community amongst Haringey Shed stood out to the young people carrying out the assessment as something really special. It was clear to the young people carrying out the assessment that all staff, volunteers and young people firmly believed in equality and inclusion. They were impressed by the professional support provided by the organisation, including access to interpreters for people with hearing problems and one to one support provided by trained volunteers.
Through observation they found that the young people themselves played a huge role in supporting and involving their peers and this was something that reinforced the organisations motto “Everyone has a part to play”.
The young assessors found that Haringey Shed is committed to involving young people in the design and delivery of their organisation not just in acting, singing and dancing. Young people are engaged in service delivery at Haringey Shed, supporting other young people in the children’s theatre, choosing the themes for plays, designing choreography and fundraising for the organisation.
The Haringey Shed youth forum is integral to the organisation, giving young people the opportunity to have their say and make improvements to their organisation.
Members of Haringey Shed Youth Theatre proudly collected a Philip Lawrence Award 2009 from Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls.
The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday 8th December at BAFTA in London’s West End and was hosted by Newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald. Sir Trevor said
“I think this is fine work. I particularly like the involvement of young people with disabilities.”
Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, said
“I congratulate the winners of this year’s Philip lawrence Award for such fantastic work in their local communities. The projects demonstrate how young people are helping break down barriers between groups in their community. The contribution to the wider community is also helping them develop new skills and gain confidence. We should all be proud of today’s winners.”
The Awards were set up in memory of Head teacher Philip Lawrence who was murdered outside his school 14 years ago. So far they have recognised over 1000 young people aged between 11 and 20 in over 80 communities since 1997.
Winning projects receive £1000 and become members of the Philip Lawrence Awards Fellowship which offers training and support to further their work. Follow the link to view a short film about Haringey Shed and to find out who the other winners are.
Akala is a MOBO award-winning rapper from North London who has a passion for making Shakespeare accessible through Hip Hop. Using everything Akala had taught them, the young people then went on to create 'Affections in the Bakery Section', their version of Romeo and Juliet set in two warring supermarket departments. They performed the show as part of ShedFest in July 2010.
