Performers Call Out: The Invisible Dog

Haringey Shed is an inclusive theatre for young people. We are looking for a company of performers for our School’s Tour in partnership with OurTime, The Invisible Dog.

Synopsis:
The Invisible Dog follows the journey of JJ, a 12-year-old boy from Haringey, as he gains understanding of what parental mental illness is and how this impacts his life at school, with friends and at home.

Touring to Year 5&6 classes across Haringey, the show and accompanying workshop aims to destigmatise parental mental illness, further understanding of appropriate language and highlight who to turn to when you need support.

We are seeking 4 performers that will play the following roles:
JJ, a dynamic 12 year old boy who is coming to terms with his father’s mental illness. He is the main character. A strong, energetic physical performer who could accurately play a young person.
PARENT, a proud North Londoner, Spurs supporter and parent, who is tackling raising a son on their own whilst dealing with mental illness. Playing age 30-55.
MRS/MR JOHNSON, a supportive teacher who manages a classroom with ease and kindness. Playing age 25-55.
AUNTY JAZZ/UNCLE JACK, a trusted family member who supports JJ with coming to terms with his parent’s mental illness. Playing age 30-60.

THE INVISIBLE DOG, a puppet who represents the parent’s mental illness. We are seeking a confident puppeteer with movement experience to shape and inhabit this role. The actor will also be required to play either MRS/MR JOHNSON or AUNTY/UNCLE.

All actors will be required to multi-role.

Please note: We want the cast to reflect the borough of Haringey and the young people we will be performing to. Therefore we welcome a diversity of lived experiences and backgrounds to apply. This includes those who identify as neurodivergent, Deaf and/or disabled. We are open to any genders for the roles of PARENT, MRS/MR JOHNSON, AUNTY/UNCLE & THE DOG.

Hours of Work:
Rehearsals will take place on Monday 13 th June – Friday 17 th June (approx 10-5pm, exact times tbc).
The Tour will take place from Monday 20 th June – Friday 24 th June with a possible extension Monday
27 th June – Friday 1 st July (this will be confirmed during the audition process).

Fee: £500 per week for both rehearsals and touring dates. (£100/ day)

Desirable attributes:
ability to multi-role confidently, ability to take initiative and work collaboratively, an enthusiastic and positive approach, passion for making work for young audiences, up to date DBS (essential) If you do not hold one then please state when applying so we can ensure this is processed by the touring dates, TiE/working with and making theatre for young people (not essential), facilitation skills (not essential), Clean UK Driving License (not essential).

Stage Management Call Out: The Invisible Dog
Haringey Shed is an inclusive theatre for young people. We are seeking an enthusiastic STAGE MANAGER to be responsible for the day to day management of our School’s Tour in partnership with OurTime, The Invisible Dog.

Synopsis:
The Invisible Dog follows the story of JJ, a 12-year-old boy from Haringey as he gains understanding of what mental health means for his dad and how this impacts JJ’s life at school, with friends and at home.

Touring to Year 5&6 classes across Haringey, the show and accompanying workshop aims to destigmatise parental mental illness, further understanding of appropriate language and highlight who to turn to when you need support.

Overview:

The STAGE MANAGER will be responsible for a smooth running of our tour whilst the company visit primary schools across Haringey. They will be responsible for the welfare of the company and liaise with the management team at Haringey Shed.

Hours of Work:
Rehearsals will take place on Monday 13th June – Friday 17th June (approx 10-5pm, exact times tbc).
The Tour will take place from Monday 20th June – Friday 24th June with a possible extension Monday
27th June – Friday 1st July (this will be confirmed before rehearsals begin with the successful applicant)

Main Duties:
To provide effective management whilst the company are in rehearsals, collaborating with the director to ensure the production is achieving its working schedule.
To help source props and make set.
To lead on the get in and get out whilst on tour with the help of the rest of the company of performers.
To operate sound from Q-Lab during the rehearsals and performances.
To drive the van that will carry the set whilst on tour (not essential).

Desirable attributes & previous experience:
Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively.
An enthusiastic and positive approach.
Experience in health and safety procedures.
Passion for making work for young audiences.
Previous experience of stage managing TiE, theatre for young audiences or touring shows (not essential).
Up to date DBS (essential). If you do not hold one then please state when applying so we can ensure this is processed by the touring dates.
Facilitation skills (not essential).
Clean UK Driving License (not essential).

Fee: : £500 per week for both rehearsals and touring dates (£100/ day)
